A couple of minutes ago, an incident took place at Republic Square in Yerevan which is hosting a concert organized by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK). Several gas-filled balloons exploded at the square injuring children and young people.
Ambulances rushed to the scene to hospitalize the injured. Meantime, the concert is continuing at the square. Serzh Sargsyan mounted the rostrum after the blast to address the participants of the event. However, he made no reference to the unprecedented incident in his speech.
According to preliminary reports, the blast and the ensuing fire were caused by a lit cigarette.
