Lawyers to be unemployed

From now on, only licensed lawyers will be able to show up to court. This is the requirement stated in the amendments to the RA law "On Advocacy" and the Civil Procedure Code.

"The lawyers who have studied at universities for years and have received their diplomas are now unemployed," said lawyer Vahagn Martirosyan as he commented on the new requirement.

According to him, the legislative amendment will increase the number of unemployed.

"This is of social significance because it is related to the people's social situation. It is a matter of creating jobs for people and keeping law offices away from liquidation," said Vahagn Martirosyan.

The lawyer doesn't agree with the view that this amendment will solve the issue of providing higher quality of services.

There has not been any public discourse on the amendments made to the RA law "On Advocacy" and the Civil Procedure Code adopted by the first and second readings at the National Assembly.

"The public had to be informed and warned about this," says the lawyer.

Out of all graduates of Armenia, nearly 1,000 are lawyers.

"Where should they go to work, if law offices have decided to close?" says lawyer Arsen Mkrtchyan.

Lawyers will send a letter to Serzh Sargsyan and voice hope that he will prevent the process of implementing the amendments.
