Parents pay money for free certificates

Yerevan's Civil Status Acts Registration (CSAR) agencies reportedly provide birth certificates for some "symbolic" money. Many parents appeared in an awkward situation after being requested 1000 - 4000 drams for birth certificates. For example, S. Chobanyan had to pay 4000 drams in the CSAR of Kanaker-Zeitun district and Karapet Hakobyan 2000 drams in the Arabkir agency.

As RA Justice Ministry spokesman Lana Mshetsyan told A1+, the law foresees no payments for birth certificates which are to be given to parents free of charge. She says the ministry is unaware of artifices in district agencies.

"The ministry's telephones and website are available for all citizens. They are welcome to contact us whenever they observe a violation," said the MoJ spokeswoman.
