A Yerevan court today sentenced Kentron district policemen Gegham Harutyunyan and Hovhannes Ghukasyan to two years' imprisonment.

Judge Gagik Poghosyan found them guilty under Article 309 of the RA Criminal Code (abuse of powers and use of force).

The defendants were immediately exempted from punishment under the general amnesty passed by the National Assembly on June 19, 2009. Besides, they were debarred from holding offices in state and self-government bodies for a year.

The advocates can appeal the court verdict in a higher instance within a month.

Remind that Prosecutor Harutyun Harutyunyan had demanded to sentence the policemen to three years in prison.
