Mutton price went up

12:08 pm | December 02, 2009 | Regions

The price of mutton has gone up from AMD 1300-1500 to AMD 2500 -3000 in Gyumri. Local residents can hardly find mutton on sale these days.

Butchers explained the increase in price by a sharp reduction in livestock numbers. Sheep breeders say that the product sold at a high price is exported to Iran, as a result the demand for mutton prevails over the supply and prices jack up.

Before the rise in prices there were 2 200 000 sheep in Armenia while today their number went down to 560 000.
