The opening ceremony of the orphanage building of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin at St. Gayane Monastery was held under leadership of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians.
The building was fully renovated by the London-based Kyurkchian family of benefactors in memory of the late George Kyurkchian and his daughter Marina Kyurkchian.
The orphanage is envisaged for 42 orphans and children of needy families who will study at the "Eornekian" public school of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. They will also attend the Armenian Home of Etchmiadzin.
In addition to renovating the orphanage of the Mother See, the Kyurkchian family has also taken on sponsorship of the orphanage's activities.
After the opening ceremony, George Kyurkchian's cinerary was placed next to benefactors of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Sargis and Astghik Kyurkchian at the cemetery of St. Gayane Monastery, followed by a requiem.
