Some writers in Gyumri are offended by the fact that secretary of the regional division of the Writers' Union of Armenia in the Shirak Marz, Andranik Karapetyan, did not mention the names of the writers who won the state prize for their works.
"Secretary Andranik Karapetyan says that only children's writer Stepan Mikayelyan has received the state prize in the past years, but I have also received a prize and certificate of honor," says a writer.
"The only two names mentioned were Levon Khechoyan and Stepan Mikayelyan. I know Levon and Stepan very well, but there are other writers in Gyumri who we can present. I published my works in Iran and I also work by the order of Russia," says Vachagan Papoyan.
Some writers who have published books, according to him, can't be considered as writers yet and don't have the right to speak about literature.
"We have a writer by the name of Hamlet Ghevond who is a very good writer. One of his books was acknowledged as one of the best works. Other books have also been published, but the demand for Ghevond's book was higher than the rest. Why?" asks Vachagan Papoyan.
They know very well why, but they don't speak out. Vachagan Papoyan, who has authored 2 books, adds that he has a couple of books that are ready for publication, but he is not going to present them to the Writers' Union. He will present them when the union will get tired of publishing all types of books and will focus on values of literature.
In general, talking about the regional division, this group of writers think that the correspondents are doing everything they can to create obstacles for them.
