Former political prisoner Vardges Gaspari comes to Liberty Square every evening carrying the photo of Haykakan Zhamanak daily chief editor Nikol Pashinyan arrested in the wake of March 1 events.

"The main problem a political prisoner faces in our republic is that he is deprived of an opportunity to spread his ideas from custody. Since Nikol Pashinyan is in prison, I carry out his cherished dreams. Gradually, these authorities will realize that we have a right to express an opinion," said Gaspari.

Though Gaspari stands in silence for a few hours and does not disturb public order, the police constantly insist on his departure.

The former political prisoner says he is able to resist their provocations and to champion his right to expression.

"I simply exercise the elementary right of an Armenian citizen. I have a right to stroll at the square, stand and voice protest," he said.

Vardges Gaspari is going to stage silent protest at the square for another week.

Then he will resort to other measures he preferred not to speak about.
