Mo progress has been observed in the health condition of former-presidential candidate, Chairman of the National Self-Determination Union (AIM), Paruyr Hayrikyan, Manya Ayvazyan, a member of the AIM representative council, told reporters on March 20. She says Hayrikyan's nervous system is compressed and he is likely to go abroad for treatment on doctors' advice.
"Earlier, Hayrikyan's friends also urged him to go abroad to receive proper treatment," she said.
Hayrikyan's legal representative Levon Baghdasaryan refrained from answering the question whether the investigations into the attempted assassination of ex-presidential candidate has revealed more details about Vardan Sedrakyan's connection with the shooting attack. He only called on the law enforcement authorities to disclose the real perpetrator/s/ in reasonable timeframe.
Paruyr Hayrikyan was shot and wounded outside his Yerevan home on January 31 in still unclear circumstances. The National Security Service (NSS) later arrested two men on suspicion of shooting and wounding the presidential candidate. The NSS announced the arrests the day after Hayrikyan threatened to reconsider his decision not to seek a two-week postponement of Armenia's presidential election slated for February 18. The NSS said the suspects, identified as Khachatur Poghosyan and Samvel Harutyunyan, confessed to the ‘the murder attempt' after being taken into custody on the previous day.
On March 5, the NSS charged Vardan Sedrakyan, another presidential candidate running in the February presidential, with ordering an assassination attempt against Paruyr Hayrikyan. Sedrakyan did not plead guilty to the charges levied against him.
