The slogan chosen by the Armenian authorities does not correspond to the reality and people hate the authorities, Chairman of the People's Party Tigran Karapteyan told reporters on March 18.
"People were expected to stand up against the regime, given the existing atmosphere of hatred, and the authorities will [sooner or later] have to step down even though they are ready to die for their seats," he said.
The leader of the People's Party is surprised at the BAREVolution (revolution of greetings) led by Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian.
"Either you carry out a revolution or not. Either you are pregnant or not. The struggle should be tough and rigid," he said.
While Tigran Karapetyan welcomes Hovannisian's victory in the presidential election, he cannot understand the essence of Hovannisian's post-election rallies.
"When I became opposition, all doors closed for me, but it did not happen in case of Raffi. I did not like it when the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) joined Raffi. after it, Raffi lost many of his supporters."
Mr Karapetyan is convinced that Raffi Hovannisian is being prepared for the next presidential election. "Russia anticipates great danger from Raffi Hovannisian, because he garnered 80 percent of the vote in the election. Hovannisian is a positive figure who is backed by the West."
Disappointed with the results of the recent election, Tigran Karapetyan today reiterated his intention to quit politics. He said he might visit Raffi Hovannisian who is hunger striking in Freedom square in protest against the ‘rigged' presidential vote.
"The environment is very close for me, besides our people are there, in Freedom square. Only people can ensure the final victory of the ongoing struggle," he concluded.
