The Democratic Party of Armenia (HDK) endorses the official results of the February 18 presidential elections released by the Central Election Commission earlier this week, HDK member Hayk Melik-Adamyan told reporters on March 1.
"We believe president-elect Serzh Sargsyan to be the winner of the Feb. 18 ballot, as long as Heritage party leader Raffi Hovanniisian has not disputed the election results in the Constitutional Court," said the HDK member.
Political expert Vigen Khachatryan does not agree with the HDK representative. He believes Raffi Hovanniisian to be rightful winner of the February 18 presidential election.
"I voted for Mr Hovanniisian and I think that if people take to the streets there will be no clashes. If people want to stand up for their votes, they should go to the streets in an attempt to unseat the authorities and this should be done in a peaceful way, with respect and honor. Otherwise, we shall see escalating emigration. In fact, people have gone ahead of political figures. If we want to establish republican orders, political figures should follow the society," Vigen Khachatryan said adding that the ‘authorities had rigged the election in a vulgar manner.'
