The Armenian Central Electoral Commission today released the final results of the February 18 presidential election, declaring the leader of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), Serzh Sargsyan, the winner of last week's vote.
"The CEC decision does not reflect the will of the society and is not acceptable by most people," Andrias Ghukasyan, one of the six candidates challenging Serzh Sargsyan in the Feb. 18 vote, said in a statement.
"I share the calls of the citizens protesting outside the CEC building and declare that the decision was null and void starting from the moment of its adoption. I also urge the presidential candidates, who disagree with the results of fake elections and Serzh-Sargsyan's phony victory, to join efforts in order to invalidate the CEC decision."
Andrias Ghukasyan was staging a hunger-strike outside the National Academy of Sciences from January 21to February 19, demanding that the incumbent be removed from the ballot and urging the authorities to stop fake elections.
