Assassination attempt will not affect election outcome

It will be more reasonable if presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan decides not to postpone the upcoming vote over the latest assassination attempt against him, political analyst Sergey Minasyan, Deputy Director of the Caucasus Institute told a news conference on February 4.

The political analyst thinks that the information field Hayrikyan has appeared in can help him take the 2nd or 3rd place in the February 18 election.

While the assassination attempt had a negative impact on the presidential campaign, it cannot affect the election outcome.

"I think that many of us already predict the outcome of the election. No matter whether elections will be postponed or not the outcome is obvious," said Mr Minasyan.

Regarding the second week of the campaign, the political analyst said he did not observe a serious struggle in the political arena: the presidential contenders were more active in the information field, with each of them demonstrating his specific strategy.

"One tried to show his willpower, the other strolled in the streets seeking maximum contact with voters, the third used his intellectual and professional abilities. This is a natural process," he said.
