The assassination attempt on presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan is a villainous crime committed not only against the presidential candidate, a statesman, but also against our statehood, Serzh Sargsyan said at Grigor Lusavorich medical center where he arrived on Friday to visit Paruyr Hayrikyan.
"People standing behind the crime obviously aimed to influence the normal course of the upcoming presidential election, he said pledging that law enforcement agencies will do everything possible to disclose the crime.
Paruyr Hayrikyan, one of the eight candidates in the upcoming presidential election, was wounded in an assassination attempt on Thursday evening. He was immediately rushed to hospital with a gunshot injury to his shoulder. Today Harikyan underwent a successful surgery.
Police are searching for the gunman.
