The number of eligible voters in Armenia totals 1.500.000 at best. The police exaggerate the number, saying the figure stands at 2 500 000, presidential candidate Arman Melikyan said on January 29.
He says that none of the country's authorized bodies can give precise information on the real number of voters as the authorities have not decided yet how many additional ballots they might use at the discretion.
"According to our surveys and other reports, about 1.300.000 people left Armenia before 2010. Another 200.000 have gone since 2010," the presidential candidate said at today's news conference.
Regarding the campaign rallies of the other presidential candidates, Mr Melikyan said the authorities together with the candidates preferred by people are engaged in while PR which actually damages these candidates.
Speaking about the hunger strike staged by presidential candidate Andrias Ghukasyan, Arman Melikyan considered it to be a desperate and useless method.
"Fasting is an unnecessary waste of one's energy resulted by political desperation," he concluded.
