Presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan is ready to join his contender Andrias Ghukasyan, who is staging a hunger strike outside the National Academy of Sciences, if the latter decides to stop it in a short time.
"I occasionally go on a hunger strike as I find it to be a useful thing. Perhaps I shall join Mr Ghukasyan for a couple of days and persuade him to stop the protest," said Paruyr Hayrikyan.
Next week, the presidential candidate will present his election platform to the voters.
Talking to journalists on Tuesday, the leader of the National Self-Determination Union predicted a relatively quiet campaign in the country. The candidate's representatives will travel to regions to meet with voters on behalf of Hayrikyan.
The candidate realistically assesses the chances of his contenders. Commenting on candidate Vardan Sedrakyan's statement that Paruyr Hayrikyan, Raffi Hovannisian and Hrant Bagratyan have formally involved in the presidential race by Serzh Sargsyan, Mr Hayrikyan said, "I have been in politics since the 60s while Serzh Sargsyan entered politics in the 90s. Even the Soviet-era prisons were unable to beat me..."
Paruyr Hayrikyan is participating in the election with the slogan "He who built independent Armenia, will also built free Armenia."
