In its January 14 sitting, the Central Election Commission of Armenia registered eight of the 15 presidential nominees who had earlier filed bids to contest the February 18 election.

The CEC registered Serzh Sargsyan (Leader of the Republican Armenian Party -HHK), Raffi Hovannisian (Leader of the Heritage Party), Hrant Bagratyan (Leader of the Liberty Party), Arman Melikyan (former Foreign Minister of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic), Paruyr Hayrikyan (Leader of the Union of the National Self-Determination), Andreas Ghukasyan (Director of Radio Hay Ltd), non-partisan Vardan Sedrakyan and Aram Harutyunyan (Leader of the National Concord Party).

Fifteen candidates had earlier submitted documents with the CEC. Six of them failed to pay the required election deposit in the fixed time period.

The CEC also upheld the application of Robert Aharonyan, who decided not participate in February's presidential election.

Election campaign starts January 17.
