Robert Melkonyan, former deputy chief of Yerevan Police, was a wonderful policeman, Vladimir Chief of Armenian Police, Lieutenant-General Vladimir Gasparyan said when describing the retired policeman.
"He [Melkonyan] spent a lifetime working in the police, and the president assessed his work by awarding him with a medal on Independence Day," Mr Gasparyan told A1+.
Asked whether police officers should take brutal actions during opposition rallies, the chief of the Armenian police said, "Surely, they must not. As to Robert Melkonyan, I must say that he is a well mannered and courteous man. His nickname "Bazaz" (merchant) does not fit him; he is not a merchant. I am surprised that he is nicknamed in this way."
Vladimir Gasparyan did not exclude that Robert Melkonyan might return to the system.
