The Hungarian authorities' decision to extradite criminal Ramil Safarov causes at least bewilderment and resentment. It was clear what was awaiting the murderer in Azerbaijan, Eduard Sharmazanov, Deputy Speaker of Armenian Parliament and Spokesman for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) said on Friday.
Regarding [Azerbaijani President] Ilham Aliyev's decision to pardon Safarov, Mr. Sharmazanov said, "The move proves that Azerbaijan encourages hatred against Armenians and fascism on a state level. Azerbaijan's striking decision to grant pardon to the killer should not remain unanswered and should be condemned by the international community."
Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree, pardoning Ramil Safarov, who axed Armenian Officer Gurgen Margaryan during NATO exercises in Budapest. Safarov, who was sentenced to life in prison by a Hungarian court, has already been extradited to Azerbaijan.
In ths connection, about 80 NGOs in Armenia have launched a collection of signatures, condemning Safarov's extradition.
