Will Medvedev next United Russia's chairman?

United Russia Party is due to convene a congress on May 26. It is expected that at the gathering, Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will be elected chairman of the United Russia.

Before that, the Russian premier suggested that the party nominate the candidates for the State Duma Speaker and introduce primaries on all levels in order to keep the party's leading role in the country. As Medvedev said, on the first day of the meeting, the party will elect the President of the State Duma Chairman by secret ballot, on a competitive basis.

The Russian premier also suggested his teammates to elect heads of local and regional structures by the same principle.
