Chairperson of the Armenian National Congress (HAK)-member Social-Democratic (Hnchakyan) Party (SDHK) Lyudmila Sargsyan is certain that the attempts to split the SDHK are aimed at hindering the SDHK's participation in the parliamentary elections as part of the Congress's alliance.

Touching upon the registration of a new political party named SDHK in the state registry during today's press conference, Lyudmila Sargsyan mentioned that her party had been registered again in the state registry of the Ministry of Justice in February 2004.

Member of the SDHK Gurgen Yeghiazaryan clarified the situation connected to the party by bringing up the example of someone showing a passport and being told that there is already another person with the same passport.

According to him, the government made this story up to hinder the HAK's participation in the elections for the National Assembly.

"Imagine the HAK, a member of which is the SDHK, appeals to the Central Electoral Commission to participate in the elections as a political alliance, and then it turns out that there is another party called SDHK chaired by Gevorg Perkuperkyan. The CEC denies the HAK's appeal, and the elections end before the essence of the matter is revealed through trials and tribulations," said Yeghiazaryan.

Yeghiazaryan informed that the SDHK had filed an appeal to the prosecutor's office and the Ministry of Justice regarding this. "If the issue isn't solved soon, we will prefer putting the HAK's participation in the elections at risk and leaving the HAK as a separate party," said GurgenYeghiazaryan.
