The two incumbent and former village heads of Arshaluys village of Armavir province will be in a heated struggle for the office of village mayor on February 12. Both candidates are members of the Republican Party of Armenia.

The former mayor, Grigor Grigoryan told "A1+" that the incumbent mayor, Charzand Grigoryan, has turned the dispute between the youth of the villages that has nothing to do with electoral processes into a pre-electoral show.

"They filled the village with police officers, and now the villagers are afraid to step out of their homes," said Zarzand Grigoryan's opponent.

The villagers complain that the police officers pull the youth over and search them at night. The youth refuse to speak in front of the camera and try to hide their faces.

The incumbent village head Charzand Grigoryan is MP Hrant Grigoryan's brother. Villagers say they solve all issues with the village head. Hrant Grigoryan told "A1+" that the appearance of police in the village has nothing to do with the elections.

Hrant Grigoryan also considered his brother's claims groundless, according to which the village head is presenting the work that he has done through the community's funds as charity.

In response to the allegations fired against him and his brother, the MP informed that their opponent, former village head Grigor Grigoryan has been sentenced to prison for appropriating properties worth 67 million drams.

A criminal case has been instigated against Grigor Grigoryan after the events of March 1, 2008. Villagers say he was sentenced "because he hadn't worked well for Serzh Sargsyan during the presidential elections."
