“Authorities still have time to amend the situation”

The Democratic Motherland Party has issued a statement urging the Armenian authorities to avoid repetition of March 1, 2008.

"Analyzing the actions of Armenian authorities since 2000 and the so-called reforms carried out by the acting regime, one can assume that they intend to establish a new system of economic management - criminal-police Khanate.

Following the public speeches of Serzh Sargsyan after the March 2008 carnage, one gets the impression that he is attempting to break the system humiliating human dignity which was created by Robert Kocharyan. In fact, nothing has changed; the recent provocation against a pro-opposition journalist is brilliant evidence to this which shows that Sargsyan steps are imitated.

The preparations for the 2012 parliamentary elections must arouse deep concerns in the public. How can the authorities pledge to conduct free, fair and transparent elections when the coalition forces have already started distributing electoral bribes and confiscated the office of an opposition party?

With its irresponsible behavior the country's leadership creates an opportunity for another March 1.

The party believes that the authorities still have time to draw conclusions; otherwise the forces concerned about the fate of their homeland will do their utmost to restore the constitutional order in the country," the party said in the statement.
