Editors demand journalist’s release

The RA Police has to be disbanded. This is what editor of "Hetq" online newspaper Edik Baghdasaryan concluded after the arrest of "Haykakan Zhamanak" Daily journalist Hayk Gevorgyan yesterday.

"For ten days, the police persecuted Hayk, who was located near the Kentron police division and didn't find him. This means that Armenia lacks a police chief and police officers," mentioned Edik Baghdasaryan.

What happened serves as grounds for editor of "Yerkir" newspaper Bagrat Yesayan to demand the resignation of the chief of the central department of the RA Police criminal investigation department "for disgraceful action".

"It would be better for the country's police chief to resign because if he isn't able to find a person under persecution, it means that he is not in his place, that is, of course, if this arrest is not ordered according to someone's "brilliant" scenario," mentioned Yesayan.

The editors of "Yerkir" Daily and "Hetq" newspaper believe the lawyers that instigated a case against Hayk Gevorgyan have nothing to do with the law.

Edik Baghdasaryan says even the police's "made up paper is illiterate". "The police chief will pay a high price for this. Police can't just arrest a journalist and make up a case against him," says the editor.

Bagrat Yesayan suggests that all the leaders of media outlets submit a joint declaration to the preliminary investigative body with the demand to change journalist Hayk Gevorgyan's precautionary measure. "It is ridiculous. That is not a preliminary investigative body, but a body that makes up cases," Bagrat Yesayan told "A1+".

We remind that journalist for "Haykakan Zhamanak" Daily Hayk Gevorgyan was arrested on 3 February for running over someone and fleeing the scene of the incident. His attorney, Vahe Grigoryan told "A1+" that Hayk Gevorgyan had not accepted his guilt simply because he has not committed any crime.
