Heritage Party MPs are not going to rest this summer, Heritage representatives Stepan Safaryan announced in the National Assembly today.
Currently, the party is trying to avert the adoption of an anti-Armenian resolution in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). Co-authored by Turkey and Azerbaijan, the document suggests that the 11 member-states of the Minsk group meet annually and report on the measures taken by their governments in view of the Karabakh conflict.
Armen Martirosyan says the grounds for a power change have already matured in Armenia and among them he enumerates violation of human rights, social status, absence of freedom of speech, and a series of unsolved murders.
There are reasons for conduction of pre-term elections but there is no process which can lead to it, he said.
"Armenian-Turkish relations can also serve as grounds for early elections though the opposition did not take advantage of this opportunity," he noted.
Asked whether the Heritage will continue cooperation with the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun regarding Armenian-Turkish relations, Mr. Martirosyan said, "We shall continue to cooperate not only with the ARF but also with the HAK. For example, our representatives in the Fact-finding group continue to draft new reports."
Armen Martirosyan thinks the National Assembly will continue suspending the Armenian-Turkish protocols for the time being.
"I hope that the issue will finally be removed from the parliament agenda," added Stepan Safaryan.
Today, Heritage is preparing for the presidential election where the party will name its own candidate.
"We are not going to nominate Vartan Oskanian. Nor shall we join the Prosperous Armenia Party or the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. How long can we dispel others' lies?" wondered Stepan Safaryan.
The Heritage will convene an extra meeting on July 10. The founder of the party, Raffi Hovannisian is expected to attend the meeting.
