Why was Pashinyan's verdict postponed?

Editor-in-chief of "Haykakan Zhamanak" daily, Nikol Pashinyan's advocates don't find the postponement of Pashinyan's verdict until January 19 by chance.

"The fact that the announcement of the verdict was postponed until January 19 after Pashinyan's elections goes to show that the court and the prosecutors realize that they would have to address the corresponding bodies and receive permission in order to bring the NA deputy candidate to justice. The existing legislation doesn't specify that mechanism for permission. In the created situation, it was necessary to get permission, but it was not clear as to which body had to give permission," Pashinyan's advocate Yervand Varosyan told "A1+" today.

According to him, the court chose the "best version", that is, to announce the verdict when Nikol Pashinyan would have been "defeated" in the elections, would no longer be a deputy candidate or a deputy and there would be no need for permission.

Yervand Varosyan has no doubt that the court will announce an accusatory verdict for Pashinyan. Varosyan doesn't deny that unlike the case of the "Seven", Nikol Pashinyan's trial was normal in terms of formality. "We have been trying to find logic in the government's actions for a long time, but that is in vain. We will wait until January 19."

Once Pashinyan's advocates have the first instance court's verdict in their hands, they will appeal the verdict all the way to the European Court. "In terms of the law, our struggle is confined to protesting the issue at international instances," said Varosyan. Pashinyan's advocate underlined once again that there is no evidence supporting the charges brought up against Pashinyan under Articles 225 and 316. "The defense side of the trial has presented much evidence that denies the charges."

Let us remind that the prosecutors have demanded an 8-year sentencing for Nikol Pashinyan.
