Chairman of the "Heritage" party's board Armen Martirosyan condemns all current and previous trials of Nikol Pashinyan and all representatives of the opposition.
"I consider the trial of Nikol Pashinyan and all the other political prisoners as phony. People who weren't guilty of anything were sentenced only for their political views," Martirosyan told "A1+". He believes that the authorities are showing their personal attitude toward Nikol Pashinyan by demanding an 8-year sentencing. "There was revenge against all political prisoners."
Armen Martirosyan today refused to comment on the statement made by chairman of the Christian-Democratic Party Khosrov Harutyunyan according to which Pashinyan and other opposition activists are responsible for the events of 2008 March 1 and it was Pashinyan who particularly called on the masses to be armed and made a call for armed conflicts. However, he said: "I was at the Myasnikyan state after 3 p.m. and it is definitely clear to me that the forces didn't function within the rights reserved for them by the constitution and the provocative groups of the authorities worked together. None of the peaceful demonstrators was armed on March 1 and there is no need to prove that."
He considers the authorities' claims that they have created equal conditions for all candidates as unfounded. He also noted that the authorities haven't nominated any candidate to apply huge resources.
Summing up the year 2009, Martirosyan emphasized that it was the continuation of 2008 and that in 2010 Armenia will not see positive developments in terms of economy and politics. "The year 2010 will be a hard year for us," said Martirosyan. He believes that there are all grounds for change of power in Armenia, but they must be operated and that is why he didn't foresee whether there would be change of power in Armenia in 2010 or not.
