Gagik Jhangirian, a former deputy prosecutor-general and senior representative of the Armenian National Congress, finds the prosecutor's demand to sentence Nikol Pashinyan to 8 years in prison as absurd.
"Any reasonable person following the trial could see that Pashinyan has committed no crime," Gagik Jhangirian told A1+.
"The term of sentence, be it 10 years, 8 or 3, doesn't matter since Prosecutor Piloyan and others realize that the case lacks corpus delicti and they commit a grave crime against the system of justice by sentencing an innocent person to prison," says Jahangirian.
Gagik Jhangirian thinks that the court decision cannot prevent Pashinya from running for Parliament under a majoritarian ticket as the decision will be put into effect on January 9.
In reply to A1+ that Pasinyan cannot be pardoned under the general amnesty if he is sent to more than five years in prison, Jhangirian said: "An innocent person is being tried. This the most important concern today."
