RA Chief of Police Alik Sargsyan held a meeting with students of the Law Faculty at Yerevan State University. He was accompanied by the heads of a number of departments.

Participating in the meeting were mainly 4th year students from the Investigation Department of the faculty.

According to students and professors, the questions were not planned in advance because it was a "working meeting in a sincere atmosphere."

The main point of Alik Sargsyan's address to the students was the restoration of confidence in the police. During the question-and-answer session, Alik Sargsyan became frustrated after hearing the comment by 2nd year student Gor Saribekyan who noted that the reasons behind the lack of people's confidence in the police are corruption, service for the government and not the people and the policemen's low salaries.

Sargsyan tried to respond to the student's comments in points and said:

"I view the people and the government on the same field. Can you name one country where the police don't serve the government? I serve the government as much as I serve our people. Whose assignment should we complete, if not the president's assignment? It should be no surprise," Alik Sargsyan said, adding that the police are not to blame for the current situation and they have been told what to do.

The Chief of Police also presented a number of data according to which there is a growth of crimes, but what gives police hope is that unlike previous years, all crimes are currently being registered. For instance, according to the data of the past 9 months, there have been 7,960 registered crimes, while that number was 5,600 in the same period last year.
