The drive for signatures for the protection of Teghut was joined by Armenia's present and previous First Ladies Rita Sargsyan and Bella Kocharyan.

"During yesterday's event at "Victory' Park we went up to the first ladies and suggested joining our campaign. The ladies signed willingly," says Mairiam Sukhudyan, ac activist of the Movement "Let's Save Teghut!"

Mairiam Sukhudyan believes the ladies will at least mention Teghut at their homes.

According to the movement representatives, the drive for signatures was backed by many signers and actors among them Shushan Petrosyan, Arsen Grigoryan, Luiza Nersisyan, Leyla Saribekyan and many others.

The open letter runs that the exploitation of Teghut's mine is inadmissible and the latter might become a source of ecological, social and economic losses.

"There are red-hats and policemen among the signatories who have tried to hinder the campaign several times. Whether they did it willingly or under pressure is not known. Anyway, we explained them that everything is being done for the sake of our children, and we should join over the idea," tells Mariam Sukhudyan.

The Movement has already collected some 5000 signatures.

President of Ekodar NGO Hrayr Savzyan says all NGOs concerned over the issue of Teghut will appeal to court with a request to annul the administrative acts on the exploitation of Teghut's mine.

Hrayr Savzyan says they are going to appeal to international instances as well.

Note that June 5 marks the International Day of Environment Protection and the Movement is going to stage a protest action in Yerevan City.
