"I wish perseverance, willpower and courage to all our friends who are still behind bars," said former Deputy Prosecutor General Gagik Jhangiryan today after being released by amnesty from his isolation cell at the National Security Service.
Jhangiryan was greeted by his friends, supporters and some of the political prisoners released yesterday. After greeting everyone, Jhangiryan answered to "A1+":
"I promise that we are going to release them [political prisoners] soon."
In regard to his evaluation of amnesty, Gagik Jhangiryan said that the amnesty has absolutely nothing to do with the events of March 1 and those who were illegally deprived of their liberty and went on to say:
"The content of amnesty will not change if you take out the point in the declaration according to which amnesty also refers to prisoners of March 1. This was an incomplete document approved after pressure from the national movement and European organizations."
Gagik Jhangiryan was acknowledged guilty under Part 1, Article 316 for applying harmless force against a state official and was sentenced to three years in prison. He was arrested on February 23 after speaking in defense of President Levon Ter-Petrosyan at "Freedom Square" a day before.
