"Generally, the co-rapporteurs gave a positive assessment on Armenia but they will continue monitoring," head of the Armenian delegation to PACE David Harutiunian said after today's sitting of the Monitoring Committee.
"Obviously, the general pardon changed the situation in the country," said delegation member Armen Rustamian. "During a post-election period an amnesty is usually viewed as an important step."
"Still, there are srious concerns including the further activity of the fact-finding group. İf the group's activity is suspended it means the NA ad-hoc Committee looking into the March 1-2 events must shoulder the whole burden."
David Harutiunian says that the project on Armenia to be presented on July 24 raises the issue of amending Armenia's Electoral Code.
"Certain mechanisms will be proposed to raise public trust and dispel doubts," added Mr. Harutiunian. Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Hovik Abrahamian is expected to make a speech on June 24. Before that the NA Speaker will have a meeting with PACE President Luis Maria de Puig.
