Armenia as transit country for Russian timber

Deputy Minister of Nature Protection of Armenia Khachik Hakobyan received members of the Vologda region delegation headed by Roman Markov, head of the forest complex of the region, Aleksey Alekseyev, Director of "Vologda Forest Industrialists" Company, and Stanislav Pivenin and Igor Zinovevin, consultants of the Russian Trade Representative in Armenia. The meeting was also attended by heads of relevant departments of the RA Ministry of Nature Protection and "Hayantar" SNCO of the RA Ministry of Agriculture. The possibilities of importing wood and bricks from Russia's Vologda region, as well as producing biofuels from timber, which will reduce the pressure on Armenia's forest areas and cases of illegal logging were discussed in the meeting. The sides also discussed the opportunities of the newly opened Meghri Free Economic Zone to export Russian timber to the Iranian market.
