Minister of Agriculture: We should have really organic food, instead of a fake one.
The 4th Annual Rural Life and Traditions Festival is being held in Yerevan today. Farmers from all the regions of Armenia gathered to show their crops and get to know with the products of their neighbors, as well as to get new acquaintances. Some of the pavilions full of agricultural products are occupied by farmers engaged in organic agriculture today. At the moment, they are all in transitional stage. They are sure that soon they will have healthy, harmless, organic food. Samvel Sargsyan, from Lori region, has been producing organic honey for two years now. He is sure that this way the demand of his product will increase, as the importance of healthy food grows every year. Ignati Araqelyan, the Minister of Agriculture, also speaks about the importance of organic food. The process has already started; and in the experimential period it is only tested by microeconomics. " I do not think that we have a goal to make the whole Armenia go through organic agriculture. We have an aim to hold organic agriculture where there is a market, opportunity and demand. And if there is a need for macroeconomics transition in the future, we can confidently pass on it, taking into consideration our previous experience." The Minister also considered improtant the control in this process. "We should have really organic food, instead of a fake one. Organic agriculture has certain demands: not to use antibeotics, fertilizer. There are companies which cerify the farmer, check him. We should control, so that all rules are kept."
