For the first time in the 25-year-old history of independent Armenia, election results did not become a cause for dissatisfaction, says Khosrov Harutyunyan, a lawmaker from the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK). He does not see reasons for post-election developments. “There will not be political intrigues, either. Many things are clear. Serzh Sargsyan announced during the HHK sitting that the prime minister would be appointed in a short while. Speaking about the latest statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, the lawmaker said the international mediators have recently begun making more targeted and transparent statements about Azerbaijan. “The OSCE Minsk Group has put aside unaddressed statements and overtly named the side which violates the ceasefire,” Khosrov Harutyunyan said. Speaking about Serzh Sargsyan’s address at the inaugural sitting of the sixth National Assembly, the HHK lawmaker said in his speech Serzh Sargsyan spoke about long-term issues. “Some theses made by Levon Ter-Petrosyan during the election campaign received various interpretations not only in Armenia but also outside the country. He proposed a formula which suggested a phased solution to the conflict. Serzh Sargsyan found it necessary to address this issue to avoid further confusion. He made it clear in his speech that there can be other mechanisms for the conflict solution,” he said Mr Harutyunyan understood from Serzh Sargsyan’s speech that the Kazan document is more acceptable for Armenia. “Though the president did not reject the Madrid principles, but he said we have a more comprehensive document which is ready for signature. But Aliyev refused to sign the Kazan document realizing its potential danger.”
