The results of the April 2 parliamentary elections did not satisfy communists in Armenia, the results even gave rise to doubts. According to preliminary reports, communists received 0,75 percent of votes in the Sunday vote. “During the meetings with people we were convinced that people restored their faith in us. People live in a difficult socio-economic situation, they want to see changes. They believed that the communists would be the force to enact those changes. However, many were unable to keep their votes and sold them. No one hides, this unprecedented situation was difficult to predict,” Vazgen Safaryan, Chairman of the Progressive United Communist Party of Armenia, told A1+. He thinks we should hold elections only under the proportional representation system. “Poor people cannot hold fair elections," Mr Safaryan stressed. He says his party will not participate in the municipal election slated for May 14. “The number of votes we received in Yerevan is not enough to try anew. On the other hand, we have little time to prepare. We spent the scarce resources we had on the parliamentary elections. It will be difficult for us to go to the polls again and try to prove something,” he said. Though communists are not represented in the new parliament they will try their best to influence the laws passed by the legislative body.
