Local elections in 10 communities
Elections to the local self-government bodies in 10 communities of Aragatsotn, Ararat, Armavir, Gegharqunik, Kotayk, Shirak and Syunik marzes will be held on February 12, 2017. In 7 communities elections of a community head and in 3 communities elections of a member of the Council of the Elders will be held. On February 2, as of 18:00 the deadline for submitting applications for withdrawal from the race by the candidates for a community head and a member of the Council of the Elders of the elections to the local self-government bodies expired. During this period 4 out of 17 registered candidates for the community head have submitted applications for withdrawal from the race. 2 out of 23 registered candidates for a member of the Council of the Elders have submitted applications for withdrawal. 2 out of 13 registered candidates for the community head and 2 out of 21 registered candidates for a member of the Council of the Elders are women. Deadline for accreditation of observers also expired on February 2. 23 observers from 6 local NGOs have been accredited in the RA Central Electoral Commission for carrying out observation mission during February 12 elections of local self-government bodies.
