Vahan Shirkhanyan refused to leave cell (video)
Vahan Shirkhanyan, former Deputy Defense Minister of Armenia, did not show up in court again. The Court of First Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash districts today continued the hearing of persons charged with abetting a criminal gang that was uncovered by Armenian law enforcement in November 2015. Judge Armen Bektashyan read out a letter sent by Shirkhanyan from the prison. He refused to leave his cell and attend the court hearing and demanded a stretcher considering his poor health condition. The trial was adjourned for a fourth time. The next sitting is slated for February 3.
