“Liberated territories cannot become a topic of negotiations” (video)
26 years ago on this day Karabakh’s village Karintak threw back the attack of Azerbaijani army. The village was situated under the city of Shoushi, which was then under control of Azerbaijan. Then Armenia and Artsakh didn’t have army. But Azerbaijanis were frightened of the thought how they failed in occupying that village. Mrs Alaverdyan thinks that it was a wonder, “That was God’s will and thanks to the people’s bravery frightening for the enemy and commendable for us.” The fact is that the heroic battles didn’t solve Karabakh issue. Mrs Alaverdyan thinks that Armenia has no concept in terms of Karabakh issue resolution. From the very beginning the resolution to the issue was directed in a wrong way; all the legal arguments should have been turned into a topic of political discussion at international instances. Serzh Sargsyan today isn’t able to solve Karabakh issue, as he cannot divert from the mistake, which has been made just at the beginning, that’s resolution to the issue without legal arguments. But it may have been done after April War, “The international structures are silently sure that Azerbaijan started, and we weren’t able, at least we didn’t turn to the U.N. Security Council, and Azerbaijan did it, explaining that Armenia attacked Azerbaijan.” Larisa Alaverdyan is against making return of 7 regions, which were formerly under control of Azerbaijan, a topic for negotiations, “I cannot return a part of my property.” By international law those territories don’t belong to Azerbaijan, claims Mrs Alaverdyan. It can clearly be proved, still in 1991 the former Human Rights Defender presented the package of proofs to the OSCE high ranking officials still before the formation of Minsk Group, “We were told ‘no’, we didn’t come to solve the issue, we came to approve the ceasefire’”. She thinks that the Armenian side should only negotiate over ceasefire and making Karabakh a negotiation side. And Azerbaijan has only one thing to get from the negotiations- peace. By the way, Mrs Alaverdyan will not say that Artsakh is a democratic state, she will say that it has very democratic Constitution.
