Narek Sargsyan, Chairman of the State Committee of Urban Planning, has instructed Aram Melkonyan, Head of the Urban Development State Inspectorate of the Ministry of Urban Development, to verify within three days whether the demolition of the Yerevan Printing House in downtown Yerevan via explosion was authorized or not. Narek Sargsyan also instructed the relevant bodies to apply administrative sanctions against wrongdoers if violations were detected in the process. The first printing house in Yerevan was demolished on Oct. 27, causing an outcry among locals. In a working consultation held on Monday, Armenian Prime Minsiter Karen Karapetyan instructed Armen Yeritsyan, the Minister of Emergency Situations, to penalize those responsible - both the contractor and ministry officials. The next day, NorTekh Shin, the contractor that used a controlled explosion to demolish the printing house, was fined AMD 1 million for not following safety protocols. The company was also prohibited from doing business for two months.
