Not much time has passed since the appointment of the new prime minister but we already see positive changes [in Armenia]. The price of petrol has gone down by AMD 20 and we expect a further fall in the prices, a former deputy head of the National Security Service (NSS) said today. He cited the words of Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan who said ‘everyone in the country can import goods.’ “Why hasn’t it been allowed until today? Why didn’t Hovik Abrahamyan do such a thing? The authorities prevented Abrahamyan from doing it. God grant no one stops Karen Karapetyan from realizing his plans,” Gurgen Yeghiazaryan said. Political technologist Karen Kocharyan says Karen Karapetyan’s actions are encouraging. “I see optimism which hasn’t existed in our society for a long time,” he said. “Why shouldn’t people believe in his program? People have seen progress; they could not get rid of [former Syunik governor] Surik Khachatryan but now he has been relieved of office. The Republican Party members have found themselves aboard a sinking ship and now they have brought him [Karapetyan] to save them,” the political technologist said. Gurgen Yeghiazaryan disagreed with him saying, “Our boat is broken, theirs is not. Otherwise, they would not take 10 billion abroad and squander it. The PM should take measures to bring the money back to Armenia.”
