The membership to the Eurasian Economic Union has done nothing good to Armenia, Sargis Hatspanyan, an expert-analyst in regional affairs, said on Sept. 5. He is surprised by the fact that Russia continues to sell weapons to Azerbaijan and declares that ‘it stems from its economic interests.’ “Russia sends its minister here [Armenia] to announce directly that they are doing the right thing by selling weapons to Azerbaijan and it stems from their economic interests. And that person is neither declared a persona non grata, nor sent away from our country,” the analyst said during a meeting with journalists in Yerevan. He believes that Russia will never behave in the same way with turkey or Azerbaijan. “Russia has never asked Armenia for its opinion. Russia has always been the side to dictate and we have always been the party to obey. Armenia has become a marz, a province in the Russian governorate. I am sorry to say this but we have been unable to create a state though we shall be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence soon. This is a shameful and painful picture,” he said. Sargis Hatspanyan thinks if there is a country that may incur losses in the region, it is Armenia. “The threat comes from Russia, and Russia's stance on the Karabakh issue is to the detriment of Armenians," he said.
