When planning their children’s career parents should first of all understand and pay attention to their children’s personal qualities, says psychologist Lilit Khachatryan. She advises parents to avoid influencing their children in their career orientation. “One should not make a child to implement his/her unfulfilled dreams or make him choose one’s own profession. Your child will be frustrated to have a profession that he/she does not like.” The psychologist advises parents to speak to their children about their future profession more frequently after they become 15. “You can even familiarize them with the peculiarities of this or that profession. The child is to understand which specialty is close to him,” she added. If anyway a child chooses a profession that does not suit him/her, the psychologist advises parents to choose one of these options: “If your child has made such a decision, it means he has some hidden motivation. You should try to help him disclose that motivation, or show him his weak side and explain that he cannot choose that profession.”
