“Authorities must try to play with Sasna Dzrer, keeping the balance” (video)

The current situation in Armenia can be somehow commented in favor of the regime. According to Gevorg Ter-Gabrielyan, Director of Eurasia Partnership Foundation, it is an opportunity to tell the outer world that at present serious concessions cannot be made in Nagorno Karabakh talks. “At present the matter is how the regime will treat the situation. If its game is like that, it must put pressure on the situation to the level that the situation and the outbreak don’t fade away. If the regime resorts to the way of destroying the rebellion, the West will begin displaying very unpleasant approaches. In fact, it will mean following the advice of Zakharova and her advisers. Armenia will become a part of Russia more and will have fewer resources to negotiate in Karabakh issue.” At the same time, according to Mr Ter-Gabrielyan, if the authorities let the situation come out of control, it will be dangerous for the regime, “The authorities must try to play the game, keeping the balance.” Touching upon the reaction of the EU, the USA and the RF to the current situation in Armenia, Gevorg Ter-Gabrielyan highlighted that for commenting on the situation stereotypes shouldn’t be used and compared the current policy with complex chess, where one grandmaster doesn’t play with one player, but each player plays on several boards. “For example, Putin plays with Aliyev, the West and Serzh Sargsyan. Aliyev plays with the same players. Serzh Sargsyan plays with Putin, Aliyev, the West and “Sasna Dzrer” group. He has more boards in this situation. If we take into consideration the words of Zakharova as the stance of Putin’s regime, the situation becomes very clear. Putin wants something from Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan says ‘So give me a present, and I will do that’. Putin tells Serzh Sargsyan to give a present, and Serzh Sargsyan tells the West to tell Putin that he cannot, as such situation arose here. If I do something like that, my regime may go, and instead more dangerous regime may come or chaos may begin.” Touching upon the resolution, Ter-Gabrielyan highlighted that he can see all the possible options; he also reminds of the events in 1988-89s’, when Karen Demirchyan left and later Levon Ter-Petrosyan did the same. Rude and wild options also shouldn’t be excluded. Though, he expressed hope that it won’t happen, as it isn’t beneficial for anyone, including the regime.
