Jirayr Sefilyan wants to participate in negotiations

Jirayr Sefilyan, a member of the New Armenia Public Salvation Front arrested on June 20 for allegedly plotting an armed revolt, the situation in Armenia created after the seizure of a police station in Yerevan should be resolved peacefully without further bloodshed. “He is ready to do everything possible find a solution to the situation. Sefilyan is trying his best to be involved in the negotiations,” Sefilyan’s lawyer, Ara Zakaryan, told A1+. Zakaryan also conveyed the words of the jailed leader of the Founding Parliament Movement whom he saw yesterday. Sefilyan believes that his participation in the talks can have a positive impact and resolve the standoff between his loyalists and the security forces in a peaceful way. On July 17, members of the group calling itself Sasna Dzrer (Daredevils of Sasun) stormed a police building in Yerevan’s Erebuni district, killing one policeman and taking several others hostage. They demand the release of their leader, Jirayr Sefilyan, and resignation of Serzh Sargsyan. Sefilyan is charged with Article 235 Part 2 of Armenia’s Criminal Code: illegal procurement, transportation or carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices.
