Former world champion Nona Gaprindashvili to play in Yerevan

“All the organizational issues have been solved, as we have been preparing for the tournament for already long time. Any problems connected with visa of the participants will also be quickly resolved. We are fully ready to organize European Senior Chess Championship in Armenia for the first time,” said secretary general of the Armenian Chess Federation Mikayel Andriasyan during the press conference. The speaker also noted that 93 chess players (75 foreign) from 18 countries will take part in the European Senior Chess Championship due in Yerevan from June 4 to 14. “The tournament has rather high rating, as 13 chess players are grandmasters, 10- international masters. In particular, the 5th women world champion Nona Gaprindashvili and the legend of Armenian chess Rafayel Vahanyan will also take part in the tournament,” noted secretary general of the Armenian Chess Federation. In reply to the question of “A1+” sports correspondent whether the organization of the tournament is connected with great expenses, Mikayel Andriasyan said, “All participants themselves will cover their expenses, besides, they cover some organizational costs. We will not pay for hiring chess house. So, great expenses aren’t needed for the organization of the tournament.”
