Eurovision 2016: flag policy released: Karabakh flag included in banned list

The EBU has released the official guidelines for the use of flags in the Eurovision audience. The flag of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has appeared in the list of flags which are specifically not allowed at the Eurovision Song Contest. The flag policy provides Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) ticket holders, and particularly the fans on the arena floor, clear guidance on which flags are permitted and which conditions they have to meet. Among the banned flags are are local, regional or provincial flags, ones with commercial messages, political or religious statements, flags of disputed territories, offensive statements, non-English statements, and other high objects (such as selfie sticks) that may obstruct views. The organisers request and urge the fan community to respect and appreciate the non-political nature of the Eurovision Song Contest. Speaking to journalists in Yerevan on April 29, Gohar Gasparyan, Head of the Armenian delegation, said they will carry with them the flag of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic).
