Thanks to the efforts of “SOS Gyumri” initiative, 13 homeless families have moved from their temporary shelters (domik) to new flats. Aren Mkrtchyan, member of the initiative, told “A1+” that in addition to those 13 families, which were initially included in the list, three more families were provided with flats. They are going to move. In general, “SOS Gyumri” team provided flats to 23 homeless families. “16 out of 23 actually exist. The rest are in the form of promises, which, we hope, will become a reality in the near future,” he said. Besides, on the Crowd Funder British website “SOS Gyumri” collected more than 25 thousand pounds, which, though, they are not able to receive: “As you know, there is a problem in Armenia connected with getting money from PayPal system. All our negotiations were useless. At present, money transferred to the citizens has been frozen on their accounts, and we have sent letters to all of them personally asking to transfer funds through another system, so that we can get them. They must simply check their mails,” he said adding that EUR 16 thousand has already been transferred. 10 million drams has been collected on the accounts of the initiative’s members. Aren Mkrtchyan says that they buy equipment and furniture for the new flats using that money, “The flats have been equipped with all the necessary home appliances. We also cooperate with one of the workshops in Gyumri in order to obtain furniture at relatively low prices.” As for the auction of sports items launched on March 21, which is carried out through “SOS Gyumri” Facebook page, it has been temporarily stopped during the days of border tension, but the members of the initiative hope to change the format and send the items abroad for sale. By the way, only 2 items have been sold until now, which total amount is 90 thousand drams.
