Minister of Urban Development Narek Sargsyan personally doesn’t support the idea of demolishing the old building of “Zvartnots”, “If we demolish constantly, tomorrow the buildings created by us will be demolished. It means that we are responsible, besides those people were our educators, who built “Zvartnots.” He thinks that professional solutions must be found, airport development projects must be carried out together with the team of Eduardo Eurnekian, “In case of goodwill, it is possible that the specialists from two sides find out technically design solutions so that both the airport develops and by preserving the old airport- its composition.” As for the preservation of the old buildings of Yerevan, in particular, “Dolmama” restaurant and the famous building of firefighters, Mr Sargsyan officially announced that nothing threatens that territory , no one is going to demolish that territory, there is no such a project, the projects of development, reconstruction will be the way to preserve those buildings, “Those are the steps from the point of view of personal business interests of the society to involve and mislead, which existed, exist and will exist. People, without knowing and discrediting the current authorities, by introducing them as destroyers, reach their goal.” Still four years ago, when Narek Sargsyan was the principal architect of Yerevan, he was against the demolition of Aram 30, though, according to his words, it wasn’t an architectural value, “It appeared in the public territory, in the future street and sidewalk, it didn’t hinder the developer. I said that it had been a gross mistake made by him to demolish it at night by arousing very negative emotions among the people.” He assured that he offered the author of “Old Yerevan” project Levon Vardanyan to include Aram 30 in the project and restore the building.
