The Armenian parliament today debated the package of amendments to the RA Law on Higher Education and Post-graduate Education as well as the Law on Education. Vahe Hovhannisyan from the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) said they were discussing a multifaceted problem. “It turns out that after graduating a university, a specialist repays his/her debt to the homeland [two years] and to a village [three years]. And what do we offer to young graduates? We send them to faraway villages to work there, but they have neither a house not a roof above their heads. They have to leave on their salaries which are too little. These young people will form families later, but how can they live in villages with their new families and low salaries? Surely, young people will do everything to avoid working in villages.” He said. The lawmaker also suggested solving the problem of those students who go to study abroad under international treaties, but do not return to their homeland. “We cannot solve all problems in the sector at once but we can start to to unravel the thread,” said Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan.
